Slimming Up with HP

Some HP digital cameras have this "slimming" feature. I know someone whose birthday is coming up who would want this...

I like how they use a girl in the example photo who isn't that big to begin with. The slimming photo makes her look like she missed a few meals.

Of course I can't finish this post without saying something about the current HP scandal. Hey did you know the HP Board is in a huge privacy scandal? Kinda makes me wish I didn't fill out those customer surveys and allowed my printer to send anonymous usage data. Really, if a company spies on its own Board, then what's it doing with the lowly customer's data?

I'm actually going to be writing an essay on the scandal for my Business Ethics class.

Link Dump for July 2006

Business card practices - These are really good. Most of these tips are a lot more interesting than the usual ones.

Watching grass grow - Is there anything more to say?

The Use of Color - This is a good post about choosing colors and how to use the color wheel to pick color schemes. I remember learning this a long time ago but then I forgot. My problem with choosing colors from the color wheel is that based on all of those relationships between colors, it seems like almost any colors go together. I think I need a real color wheel. But I need one with hex values.

The Guide to Avoiding Small Talk - Good tips for having decent conversations. I need to get better at this, but I'm just not that interested in it.

Shooting Fireworks with a Digital Camera - I haven't read this yet, but I need to before New Years or at least before the next July 4th. If you're reading this Alex, you'll probably like this link if you're still into photography by the time you find this post.

The Un-Funny Truth about Scientology. This is really sad. Apparently Scientology really does kill people.

Gliffy - This is online diagram software. It's like MS Visio, except entirely online. You can also share diagrams.

Etched in Time - Really elaborate Etch a Sketch art. It looks so good you'll think it's fake.

Against School - Did you know school is bad for you? It is.

isolatr - Social networking for people who hate social networking.

Stock Photos

There was a great SitePoint thread about stock photos. It's hilarious. It got started because of this post with the top ten stock photography cliches. The cliches are funny enough, but in the thread there's a link to this page, where there's a stock photo of a guy checking out a girl under the "Participate Now" heading. It had me laughing out loud.

Here's some links that I wanted to share.

Kodak's Top 10 Tips for taking Great Pictures. I think I saw this before a long time ago, but it has some good info, so here it is.

AutoStitch

AutoStitch is a really cool program that takes a group of photos and stitches them together as a panorama. It's really easy to use. All you do is take a bunch of photos in a row and point AutoStitch to them, then it tries to piece them back together. There's a bunch of extra options but you probably don't want to mess with them. Very cool.
