I was working on my resume the other day. I thought it would be cool if we could just do normal resumes like "I know stuff. I'm not stupid. I can learn new things. Give me a job."
Later I saw this manifesto on ChangeThis about Craig of craigslist fame, where he explains why craigslist works. If you don't know, craigslist is a site that shows you events and job postings and lots of other things for an area. Anyway, that manifesto is a really good read, and only 5 or so pages. He talks about building a community and how craigslist evolved. Instead of me giving you a summary, just go read it. It's a PDF file. Also, ChangeThis is a good site to check out. Lots of smart people writing good advice for free. Can't go wrong with that.
I haven't used craigslist before so I checked it out. Alex and I were looking at the job listings. Alex also looked through people's resumes, and he found this resume titled "Tired of BS". That guy stole my idea before I thought of it. I wonder how that's working out for him. It would be cool if he finds this post and tells me how effective that really was. Then it would be extra cool if it actually got him a job.
Oh yeah the other idea I had was for a reverse resume, where companies send you resumes of themselves and then you decide which one you want. Like "why should I come work for you?" Pro athletes get to do it that way. Why not everyone else?
So yeah, if you find this site and you need to hire someone, I'm not stupid and I can usually learn things and I'm not a total jerk usually. Oh and here's Alex's:
